July 8 11:30am - 1:00pmHM Elders Luncheon: "The Road to Health is Paved with Good Intestines!" 1514 Englewood (enter South door)
Virginia Schuster from the MN Gastroenterology Center will present "The Road to Health is Paved with Good Intestines!", an overview of issues regarding the lower GI tract including colon cancer, irritable bowel and Crown's disease. Call 651-209-6542 to make reservations fro the luncheon and request free transportation. A free will donation is requested for the meal. Come learn about Hour Dollars, a grassroots neighbor-to-neighbor service exchange program. Hour Dollars participants earn hours by providing services, then use hours to receive services from other members. Members contribute a small annual fee for administrative costs. "Snelling Green Streets" is an initiative to transform North Snelling Avenue into a more ecologically sound and pedestrian friendly street, with an emphasis on greening and stormwater management. Design concepts will be presented at two public meetings. Come to one or the other (not both)! Participants will be asked to prioritize the design concepts for preliminary engineering by the City of Saint Paul. At this meeting, the HMC Board of Directors will consider a proposal to amend Article II of HMC's bylaws, which deals with the Board of Directors. The proposal would change sections regarding terms of service, elections, appointments, and vacancies. You are invited to join Mighty Midway Greening & Growing, a group of area residents hoping to green the neighborhood, grow more local food, and build a sustainable community. Current project ideas include partnerships to encourage more home gardens, compost satellites, and exploring possibilities for community gardens, a community kitchen, and a community greenhouse.
