HMC Events & Opportunities

Local Food Resource Hub Coming to Hamline Midway! Hamline Midway Coalition’s Local Foods Working Group voted in November to partner with Gardening Matters and create St. Paul’s first Local Food Resource Hub. Hubs are locally-based partnerships of individuals, neighborhood organizations, and local businesses who support residents to grow their own fresh produce, helping to ensure greater food security and healthy food access. As a democratic organization, a hub needs your voice and membership. A kick-off event will be held in late January - stay tuned! Read more about the Local Food Resource Hub in Hamline Midway here.

HMC Seeks Nominations for Neighborhood Honor Roll - Every year in January, the City of Saint Paul and the city's 17 District Councils celebrate the contributions of outstanding neighborhood volunteers at the Neighborhood Honor Roll event. Each District Council can name up to 3 groups or individuals for recognition. If you know someone who has made a significant contribution to the Hamline Midway neighborhood this year - or over the course of many years - please nominate them by December 1 by sending a few sentences describing the person and their contributions to michaeljon@hamlinemidway.org.

FREE Placemaking Workshop for Creative Types - If you consider yourself to be a musician, dancer, performance artists, writer, poet, culinary artist, visual artists, or other creative types, you are invited to use your talents to transform your neighborhood through innovative placemaking! Placemaking is the act of animating overlooked and undervalued public and shared spaces, making them into welcoming places where a community gathers and thrives. Creative folk who live, work, or have a personal investment in any of the neighborhoods along the Central Corridor LRT line may attend one of several FREE trainings on collaborative and creative placemaking. Participants who complete the training will be eligible to apply for placemaking project support (up to $1,000 per person) through a simple application process. Register for an upcoming workshop on Saturday, December 3 or December 10 from 8:00-5:30pm. Register at http://tinyurl.com/PMworkshops. For more information, contact Peter Haakon Thompson, Project Coordinator, at 651-789-0679 or peter@springboardforthearts.org.

HMC Launches Community Development Committee - HMC is forming a Community Development Committee that will develop initiatives to build a strong local economy; improve infrastructure, amenities, and services in the Hamline Midway neighborhood; and promote the neighborhood to potential developers. The committee will also work with HMC staff to review land use applications (for licenses, variances, conditional use permits, re-zonings, etc.) For more information, please contact Michael Jon Olson at 651-494-7682 or michaeljon@hamlinemidway.org.

Crime Prevention Tip: Secure Package Delivery – The holiday season is upon us, and many packages are arriving on doorsteps. If you are expecting a package to be delivered to your home, don’t make it easy pickings for enterprising thieves. If you are unable to be home to accept your package, pick it up from the post office or delivery store location instead or ask a trusted neighbor to hold it for you until you get home. If you see suspicious activity, report it to the police immediately by calling 911 to help our neighbors enjoy a crime-free holiday season.

Want to Build Community in Hamline Midway? The Community Building Committee is looking for energetic volunteers to help plan plan the community festival, support block club organizers, prevent crime, and create community building opportunities in the neighborhood. The committee generally meets on the first Monday of each month from 6:30-8:00pm at the Hamline Midway Library, 1558 W. Minnehaha Ave in the auditorium. The next meeting will be held Monday, December 5. We look forward to meeting you! For more information, contact Faith at faith@hamlinemidway.org or 651-494-7683.
